Show-a-Thon 2006 Announcements

2006-05-16
  1. We have 15 members in our group. We need to raise a total of $500 to perform for 5 minutes. That means each person has to raise at least $31.25. But it's ok to raise more money.
  2. When you are asking people to donate money, tell them you want to perform in the Show-a-thon this summer, and that we have to raise $500 in order to get 5 minutes on stage.
  3. Then you can tell them the money goes towards building our church.
  4. If the person pledges $10 or more, then you can ask them to write down there address in order to get a tax receipt. But if they don't want one, they don't need to write their address. And if they give less than $10, they aren't required to write their address.
  5. The performance is on June 24th, 2006 (Saturday), from 8:00-10:30pm in the Church Basement.
  6. All performers are REQUIRED to BUY tickets to go to the show.
  7. Please hand in your Plegde Forms along with the MONEY to Doris Cheung by Saturday June 3, 2006.
DO NOT LOSE THE PLEDGE FORMS!!!

2006-02-27

The SCYO has been invited to play two songs at the Good Friday Mass on Friday April 14, 2006. Four people will be representing the St. Cecilia's Youth Orchestra. We have chosen Donald Fu (Flute), Jennifer Cheung (Clarinet), Caroline Lai (Violin) and Sara Chan (Baritone).

Well Done!

2005-12-18

Excellent performance St.Cecilia Youth Orchestra! You guys did an awesome job. As a church based group, this was the first religious activity that we were able to participate in. In the rush and excitement of our practices, we often forget that we were brought together in God's house to share our talents.

The annual Christmas Party was our first performance for our church, and we proved to them that we could do it! We received many compliments about what good form we all had on stage. We looked very 'professional' that night, following the conductor's instructions very well. But most importantly, we sounded amazing. Some people in the audience said that we did the best performance of the night!

SCYO wants to thank everyone for participating in the performances this year, you all worked very hard to get to where you are today. Your commitment to the Youth Orchestra is well recognized and appreciated. Keep up the good work!!

Our church is organizing a bazaar (think of it as a huge garage sale for charity) on July 9th and 10th (Saturday and Sunday). Various music groups from SOTW are invited to play, including SCYO. More details to come.

2005-05-04

SOTWCCC is having a "Eucharistic Procession" on Sunday, May 29th right after mass#2. All SOTWers are encouraged to attend. The procession is supposed to end at around noon. After that, SCYO is going to have a rehearsal and then hold an informal session to outline our goals. Please attend both.

SCYO Returns for the Summer

2005-05-01

After 4 months of hibernation, SCYO is back for the summer term. As a pilot project for the SOTW Music Initiative, the Youth Orchestra is playing on May 22nd at the 12:00 mass (tentative date: subject to Fr. Lung's approval). If it is successful, SCYO is expected to play at this mass at the end of each month. SCYO will also be re-registering members and refreshing the executive council. Old members should re-apply. More details to come.

Benedikt Gott Geschickt!

2005-04-24

German Cardinal Joseph Alois Ratzinger was elected on April 19, 2005 and was officially inaugurated as Pope Benedict XVI on April 24. He replaced the late Pope John Paul II as the spiritual leader of the world's 1.1 billion Catholics. Although critics were quick to condemn him as a conservative old man who will lead the Church to her end, he is as steady as a rock. God said to the first Pope, Peter: "You are the Rock...." Benedikt certainty is an excellent candidate for the job!
