Members' Guide

Pre-requisites

  • Must be between the ages of 11 and 35 (Grade 6 and up)
  • Must be able to play an instrument (basic knowledge)1
  • Optional: Sight-reading ability2
  1. We are not responsible for teaching players, we are only playing to develop our ability to play, and have fun.
  2. Gives a distinct advantage in the SCYO. Even if you can't do this, you soon will be able to.

General Information

  • The executive team will notify you of upcoming rehearsals and performances. They will attempt to reach you by telephone and/or email. Please make sure you know when the next practice is.
  • If songs are arranged by in-house, the notation will be available for download in addition to being available during practices
  • Otherwise, there will be no notation available to download from the website. Instead, manuscripts will be photocopied and handed out. Members are kindly asked to keep track of their manuscripts.

Members are required to:

  • Practice regularly
  • Bring their instruments to practices and performances
  • Maintain music manuscripts in good order
  • Check website periodically for updates and announcements
  • Attend scheduled rehearsals
  • Attend general meetings
  • Attend scheduled performances
  • Inform Directors/Conductors if unable to make rehearsal/events at least 2 days in advance
  • Inform Directors/Conductors if unable to make performance at least 2 weeks in advance.

Members are asked to:

  • Bring musical manuscripts to each practice and rehearsal.
  • Bring their own instruments, whether they are rentals, owned, or are instruments borrowed from school.
  • In the event that an instrument is unable to be procured, SCYO will attempt to obtain a particular instrument for you given that advanced warning of such a predicament is reported.
  • Be dedicated and keep a positive attitude throughout sessions.
  • Come to practice sessions on time.
