SCYO Members' Guide
FYI, everything you need to know is in the SCYO Constitution, but if you are not interested in reading the whole thing, here are the biggest takeaways.General
If you are a youth and know how to play a wind instrument or percussion1, you are welcome to join SCYO. You will need to provide your own instrument. We will not be teaching you how to play. And be prepared to sight-read! It'll be fun :)
We need money to run (e.g. to buy music), so please pay membership fees2 ASAP!
Practice
We have practice from 7:30pm to 9:30pm every Saturday at SOTWCCC, except holidays and when we tell you there is no practice. Also, be alert for extensions and changes in practice times and venue.
Check your email regularly to be up-to-date. Music is sometimes distributed at rehearsals, but mostly available for downloading from the SCYO Members Area. You are responsible for printing (or reprinting) and bringing the music if notified to (usually via email).
Performance
When there is a performance, we expect that you are able to come, so it is your responsibility to let the Directors know if you cannot. You are not allowed to perform if you missed 25% or more of that season¡¦s rehearsals. There is a dress code when we go public. Unless we say otherwise, this is it:
Black suit jacket
Dark-coloured tie
Dark-coloured socks
dress shirt
Dark-coloured socks
Finally
If you are unsatisfied with something, please don't hesitate to inform your section leader or a Director about it. We are here to help. And you are here to have fun!
- We are not responsible for teaching players, we are only playing to develop our ability to play, and have fun.
- We do not charge membership fees unless you are joining SCYO, so feel free to drop in!
